Research and Development Culinary Manager

As a Culinary R&D Manager, you will be given specific projects to manage while continuously communicating all concepts, projects and team/account statuses to the Director of Culinary R&D. This position is also responsible for retaining and taking the culinary lead on assigned culinary accounts. The Culinary R&D Manager works closely with their team and other culinary team members to develop, research and prepare concepts, recipes, support presentations and provide value during client interactions; as well as, support the day to day operations of the culinary department.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for generating concept development opportunities with restaurant chains that include client’s products and capabilities while supporting chains innovation and menu development goals.

  • Accountable for training and managing assigned team members.

  • Develop and cultivate current and/or new relationships with the top 250 national accounts, manufacturers and existing accounts for new business opportunities.

  • Provide regular reporting of activities to the Director and VP of Culinary R&D.

  • Oversee and guide all culinary aspects of projects that include conceptualization, design, current/prospective trends, development and evaluation of new food concepts/products for targeted markets or customers and final product specifications.

  • Stay ahead of culinary, consumer and restaurant trends, new processes, food products, applications, test, recommend and incorporate new methods or ingredients into new/existing products.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree is required; Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent job-related experience in theCulinaryfield

  • 5+ Years of experience in Culinary experience in an R and D, sales or corporate role

  • Experience working with regional or national restaurant chains at a corporate level

  • Ability to effectively build and foster relationships with clients, potential clients, and colleagues

  • Have a thorough understanding of restaurant operations, manufacturing, distribution, food safety, corporate strategy and profitability

  • Must be able to travel for client meetings, presentations, and other out of office events

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Sales/Management:

  • Responsible for generating concept development opportunities with restaurant chains that include client’s products and capabilities while supporting chains innovation and menu development goals.

  • Accountable for training and managing assigned team members, including but not limited to:

  • Reviewing and approving all documents and associated work

  • Training and mentoring team members to enable growth and responsibility

  • Responsible for overseeing and/or leading presentations and interactions with restaurant chains; resulting in menu placements on behalf of our manufacturer clients

  • Lead discussions with supervisor, regarding potential CSSI marketing or additional CSSI culinary business opportunities

  • Develop and cultivate current and/or new relationships with the top 250 national accounts, manufacturers and existing accounts for new business opportunities

  • Maintain ongoing consultative service to ensure client satisfaction with key accounts

  • Provide regular reporting of activities to the Director and VP of Culinary R&D

Culinary R&D:

  • Oversee and guide all culinary aspects of projects that include conceptualization, design, current/prospective trends, development and evaluation of new food concepts/products for targeted markets or customers and final product specifications

  • Stay ahead of culinary, consumer and restaurant trends, new processes, food products and applications

  • Test, recommend and incorporate new methods or ingredients into new/existing products

  • Maintain affiliations with culinary institutes, restaurants and associations

  • Follows all food safety protocols and procedures

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct Reports

  • Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources

Indirect Reports

  • May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports

Minimum Qualifications

The following are the minimum job-related qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job

Education Level: (Required): Associate's Degree or equivalent experience

(Preferred): Bachelor's Degree Or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience: Culinary

5+ Years of experience in Culinary experience in an R and D, sales or corporate role

Experience working with regional or national restaurant chains at a corporate level

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively build and foster relationships with clients, potential clients, and colleagues

  • Sense of teamwork and collaboration. Works well in group settings to move projects forward, provide constructive feedback when needed, and support the overall team workload

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and comfortable in front of crowds

  • Have a thorough understanding of restaurant operations, manufacturing, distribution, food safety, corporate strategy and profitability

  • Possesses a sales-driven mentality, and effectively look at projects/situations to uncover opportunities for client product fit, CSSI support/growth fit, and make appropriate decisions in order to capture opportunity

  • Must be able to travel for client meetings, presentations, and other out of office events

  • Ability to function with minimal supervision, stay organized and adjust to constantly changing priorities

  • Positive team player with a solution-driven attitude

  • Making appropriate and sound decisions in adherence to company policies regarding travel and business expenses

  • Understanding of current nutrition, food and food industry trends.

Field / Administrative Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office, field, retail store, or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: engage in considerable physical activity, ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds, stand on feet for long periods of time, use products or cook food as appropriate for the demonstration, and may be required to work in extremely cold conditions (i.e. refrigerated and freezer sections). Also required to travel and drive. The use of proper safety practices when handling the products and/or cooking is essential.
